Camtasia Studio/ Wondershare Quiz

The video making on our teaching was really a tension provider. Just to teach the lesson and make video using camera and mobile was not the problem, but to edit, add effects, transition, apply video effects, providing text and titles were troublesome. This is because I have never done till now. Nevertheless, with the help of my friends, I could at least use the software and complete my assignment to a desirable result
I am grateful to my friend for helping me to fulfill my task and looking forward to learn more from her.














Wondershare Quiz

The making of Quiz was given in groups. In the groups, we were asked to make quiz of twenty questions. We were asked to create interactive Flash-based quiz using Wondershare Quiz Creator in a group. We downloaded the wondershare quiz creator software and explored on the questions for the quiz. 

It was very interesting to create a quiz in a soft ware. The  quiz type includes multiple choice, fill in blanks, essays, matching,  and short essays etc...We have also added a range of multimedia options, Flash video, test to speech, inserted maths and science symbols with equation  to make the whole thing more interesting.
  It is a quick work, easy to design and interesting to use. But with our children need to have all the gadgets in the school and at home. So I feel that to use this idea of quiz creator with the students might take some more years, especially in the primary level. I hope the facilities would be provided sooner or faster to all the schools.

Google Docs/Blog and Wiki


Journal of last Three session (8/7/15 to 10/7/15)

We were taught how to use google docs and share information through blogging. Google drive can be used to keep our files such as; photos, stories, designs, drawings, recordings, videos – anything. Our files in Drive can be reached from any smartphone, tablet, or computer. So wherever we go, our files follow. Google Docs brings our documents to life with smart editing and styling tools to help us easily format text and paragraphs. To be honest, I have never learnt or used google docs so far. by attending the sessions on this, has really benefited me. With the presentation from our tutor, Mr. Chenga Dorji, I learnt a lot. I came to know that, we can keep our files in the google docs. Students can keep their journal there and edit any time and teachers can comment it there only. 


A Wiki is a collaborative online space for students to view, contribute, and edit content. The instructor can see the process and evolution of the collaborative work and grade each  participant individually. It is Collaborative and viewable by all members of the course, or specific groups. Wikis are CONTENT/DOCUMENT centred.



 A Blog is short for ‘web log’ and is considered a shared online diary. 
The Blog Tools can be shared to whole course, or the settings can allow for sharing between specific student groups and the instructor. Blogs can be used for more engaging content than the text-based.  It is public and viewable by all members of the course, or within specific groups. Blogs are AUTHOR centred.


Every learning has its affect. All the topics that I have learnt in ICT session were new, interesting, and beneficial to me and could be for all. I have already started using in my profession not only in the assignments. I even shared with some of my colleagues and they were impressed with what I could do a little. Whatever I have learnt in the residential, NIE Samtse in the ICT class, I am going to use it in my daily life and of course I will also share with my colleagues. Whatever is learnt needs to be kept in touch or it may vanish nowhere.

WEB SEARCH

                                   
             3rd Day  7/7/15

As I mentioned in the earlier journal, that I thought I know quite well about the use of ict, but the topic on Web research turned me wrong. What I know was just to type the key words in the address bar and then search, which was just a basic search.
A web search engine is a software system that is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. The search results are generally presented in a line of results often referred to as search engine results pages (SERPs).
There are two web search; Basic search and Advance search. There were five search tools in the advance search, they are;
i.                 BOOLEAN OPERATORS
ii.               TRUNCATION
iii.             WILDCARDS
iv.             RESTRICTING SEARCH SITE
v.               RESTRICTING SEARCH BY FORMATS.

i.                 Boolean Operators  are used to connect and define the relationship between our search terms. When searching electronic databases, we can use Boolean operators to either narrow or broaden our record sets. The three Boolean operators are AND, OR and NOT.

AND is used to narrow down the search by typing all the key words. Example; stock market AND trading
OR is used to broaden our search by writing two or more synonyms. This will ensure the search on any one of the topics. Example; ecology OR pollution
NOT helps us in narrowing our search by excluding the content that we do not want to be included. Example; Population NOT Census.

ii.               Truncation:
Truncation, also called stemming, is a technique that broadens your search to include various word endings and spellings.
  • To use truncation, enter the root of a word and put the truncation symbol at the end.
  • The database will return results that include any ending of that root word.
  • Examples: 
    child* = child, childs, children, childrens, childhood
    genetic* = genetic, genetics, genetically
  • Truncation symbols may vary by database; common symbols include: *, !, ?, or #


iii.           Wildcards:
Similar to truncation, wildcards substitute a symbol for one letter of a word.
  • This is useful if a word is spelled in different ways, but still has the same meaning.

  • Examples: 
    wom!n = woman, women
    colo?r = color, colour

iv.             RESTRICTING SEARCH SITE is also known as stemming. It is a technique to broaden our search to include various word endings and spellings. We need to type the root word and insert truncation symbol(*,!,? or #) and then search. Eg, “child*”

   v. RESTRICTING SEARCH BY FORMATS is a way of narrowing down the search and saving time is by restricting with file formats. Type the type of the file that we are looking for will reduce our search task to a great deal. Example, “pdf,hmt,xls,docs,ppt,….

The search tools were of great help in obtaining the wanted information from the internet in a short span of time, and this is what a busy teacher really in need of. Now, I realized that I have not made wrong choice by opting ICT as it really enhanced my knowledge which would be a great help to me, my children and friends.

TEACHING FOR 21ST CENTURY.




Day II - 6/7/15


 The session began with presentation of 21st century skills and what it means to teach in the 21st century. Due to the development of technology, children are far advanced in using the technology gadgets. Therefore, the way they learn and their needs are changing rapidly. Unlike in the past, teachers were the only sole facilitators of knowledge of learning, but today, children are much better in dealing with the ict technology. They browse various websites to get information. So the the teaching learning is becoming more complex. In order to meet their needs, we need to update ourselves to fulfill the desire of learning in children. This is because teachers are no longer the main source of information. 
The session was followed by ICT as Informative tools. To be the user of information, we must know the forms of information that we are looking for. Therefore, the different formats were a great help for me. There formats are; Text files, Audio files, video files, graphics, flash and data files.
The information on Teacher sites was another useful resource. Teacher site is intended to meet the needs of teacher, has resources, lesson plans and other teaching ideas and it enhances our creativity in teaching methods. ICT session in the residence has really helped me a lot. I could use many of the tools which some ICT facilitator of some schools can't. Even some of the teachers who went for IT course in India have problem with the tools and resources that we have learnt. I want to thank our tutor for bringing up the topics and NIE for organising such classes. My knowledge on ICT have been really enhanced and to keep in long run with me, I would use in the teaching learning and share with my my mates at any time.

Reflective Journal

DAY -ONE  (3/7/15)

The first session of EDN 418, for ict in education was started with a presentation on the work plan and briefing on the assessment for the module. in this session, I learnt from our tutors that there are 5 ICT tools; i. ICT as information tools.
                 ii. ICT as communicative tools.
                 iii. ICT as constructive tools.
                 iv. ICT as co-constructive tools.
                 v. ICT as situational tools.
Our tutor, Mr. Chenga Dorji showed us the video clips on Digital Natives vs Digital Immigrants. Watching this video, really made me to give a deep thought of teaching the new generation of ICT world students by me with limited ideas on this technology. They are well equipped with the gadgets like laptops, desktops, i pads, i pods, cell phones, play stations and so on with various social networking apps.  A 4 years old child could fiddle cell phone and laptop without much problem, think what he would do when he grows up a little. Reflecting on the video clips and child using the ict gadgets pinches me that how I would deal with such children with my limited ideas on ICT. But thank God, Mr. Chenga has imparted the ideas and skills on ICT, which would at least help me to deal with these Digital Natives. 
No wonder, children in the class are inattentive with our teaching all because of our teaching just using chalk board and charts. As it is ICT World, which has become one of the need, we need to enhance our knowledge on digital and make best use of it in the classrooms for betterment of both the learners and teacher.
